Project Description
The main objectives of this project are to implement tobacco prevention awareness sessions and courses among pregnant and post-pregnant women in a rural area of Montevideo, Uruguay; train local health workers on how to teach and promote tobacco prevention and control measures; and create guidelines and educational material to prevent smoking pregnant women. The project will take 18 months. The target population for this project is all pregnant women that will receive consultation and treatment at the CHN Gustavo Saint Bois hospital and any of the other 10 regional health centers of the area between March and September 2010. Awareness sessions will take 6 weeks, and will be repeated under request of participants. Each awareness session will not exceed 8 participants in order to guarantee and efficient communication among participants. Guidelines and information material will be print and distributed among participants, professionals of governmental and non-governmental organizations, health professionals, nurses, postgraduate students of medicine and community volunteers. Participants to awareness sessions will be requested to share the knowledge and information acquired in their families and community. The program will be evaluated by a final report that will be prepared by the trainers from participants feedback. Evaluations will be quantitative and qualitative.
