PJammin For Kids With Cancer

We'd like to let you know about World Cancer Day on Friday, February 4th. World Cancer Day is hosted by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), a collaboration of over 300 cancer organizations in 100 countries. As a member of the UICC, the American Childhood Cancer Organization is trying to host simultaneous childhood cancer awareness events at schools across the country. These events are part of a program called PJammin For Kids With Cancer, which has already been held in dozens of schools and businesses and has received incredibly positive feedback since it started a year ago.

Children with cancer spent months to years on treatment; a considerable amount of this time is spent in pajamas. PJammin is based upon students and staff wearing their pajamas to school as a symbolic way of reflecting on the amount of time that children with cancer must spend in their pajamas. This is a fun event, which requires little effort to organize, and it helps schools become supportive, cancer-aware places in the community.

In spite of improved treatments, childhood cancer remains the number one disease killer of America's children. Awareness needs to be raised regarding the impact of this disease on our nation's children, and funds need to be raised to provide treatment information and research that will lead to cures. PJammin is often hosted as the combination of an awareness event and a fundraiser. Where allowed, a minimal donation of $1 per participant is being requested. All money raised will be donated towards American Childhood Cancer Organization's programs and the reprinting of ACCO's childhood cancer books. Schools that are not allowed to host fundraisers for outside organizations are still asked to participate in World Cancer Day by hosting PJammin as an awareness event only.
We hope you'll help us spread childhood cancer awareness by visiting www.pjammin.org and learning how you can request that schools in your area host a pajama day on February 4th.

Help us spread awareness!
