New opportunity for UICC members and partners to work with cities to improve cancer care

At the close of the 2017 World Cancer Leaders' Summit in Mexico City, UICC launched a call to action, inviting cities with populations greater than one million to join a new multisectoral initiative - C/Can 2025: City Cancer Challenge - designed to support cities to take the lead in the design, planning and implementation of cancer treatment solutions.

A Convergence in Support of National Cancer Control Plans

The International Cancer Control Partnership (ICCP) met on 16 November in Mexico City, following the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit, to develop a strategic plan for the next five years to support global cancer control. Leslie Given, an expert in the development and implementation of national cancer control plans has been invited to share some of the meeting’s outcomes.

'Cities driving change'

On 14th November 2017, 350 global leaders from 60 countries gathered at the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Mexico City, Mexico. Hosted by the Ministry of Health of Mexico and UICC member organisation National Cancer Institute of Mexico (INCan), the event was opened by UICC President Prof. Sanchia Aranda and welcomed a highly distinguished programme of attendees including President Enrique Peña Nieto, President of Mexico; President Tabaré Vázquez, President of Uruguay; Her Majesty Queen Letizia of Spain; H.E. Mrs Angélica Rivera de Peña, First Lady of Mexico; H.E. Ms Gabriela Michetti, Vice President of Argentina; H.E. Mrs Kim Simplis Barrow, First Lady of Belize; HRH Princess Dina Mired of Jordan, President-elect of UICC.
