More than 50 moles, maybe I should see a doctor? – A nationwide awareness campaign in Germany against malignant melanoma.

Each year, about 16,000 people in Germany are diagnosed with malignant melanoma. „Knowledge counts!“ concerning early detection of skin cancer. In the true sense of the words.

The amount of moles is regarded as a major risk factor for the development of malignant melanoma. With more than 50 moles, it is significantly more likely that one of them is turning malignant. Therefore, the following rule applies: People with more than 50 moles should have regular skin cancer screenings with their physician. In addition it is important to check the own skin regularly in order to detect potentially hazardous moles in time.

The BioPharma company Bristol-Myers Squibb, Germany, communicated in a national disease awareness campaign the importance of early detection of malignant melanoma: The education of the public was supported by campaign posters with QR code placed in 45 fitness studios (180 mirror foils, 4,500 posters in locker doors, 40,000 disease awareness flyers) and approximately 50 trams or subways (750 window laminations) as well as through print and online media relations.
