Hope Lodge- Project Background
Hope Lodges provide a home away from home at little or no cost for low-income cancer patients and family members in a growing number of countries around the world.
UICC has published a handbook designed to help local, regional and national cancer organizations and patient support groups to create their own Hope Lodges geared to the needs of local patients.
In many countries, cancer patients face difficulties accessing effective care because of long distances to medical centres. Hope Lodges are emerging as a highly effective community-based solution to this problem, offering low-cost or free accommodation to patients and family members and, where resources permit, specialised services such as psychological counselling.
Hope Lodges provide a vital bridge between hospital and home, offering a friendly, convivial environment where patients can share experiences and support one another through sometimes-difficult phases of treatment.
Promoting equal access to professional treatment and care for people around the world, Hope Lodges are making a significant contribution to improving the quality of life for cancer patients everywhere.
