Swiss Bridge Award - Opportunity for UICC members

This year, through the Swiss Bridge Award, projects focusing on rare tumors* or childhood cancers are eligible for funding. Investigators from academic and cancer research institutions in Europe are invited to apply.

Swiss Bridge is a private foundation associated with the Swiss Cancer League, the Foundation Cancer Research Switzerland, and UICC, and supports high-quality cancer research in Europe.

Investigators from academic and cancer research institutions in Europe are invited to submit a note of intent for a new cancer research project on or before March 31st, 2011. The proposals will be screeened by an  international scientific committee. The principal investigators of a shortlist of between 6 and 8 projects will then be invited to submit (by email) a detailed research application by the end of July 2011. Upon peer review and recommendation from the scientific committee, up to 3 projects will receive funding amounting to a total support of  500,000 Swiss francs. The donors have earmarked 50 percent of the funds for Swiss projects.

The winners will be invited to a ceremony to be held at the end of October 2011.

The note of intent should be no longer than 6 pages (3,000 words) and should include:

  • the title of the project
  • the name, address and affiliation of the principal investigator
  • the domain of research (basic, clinical, psychosocial, epidemiological, translational, other – please specify)
  • the principal investigator’s short curriculum vitae
  • a support letter from their employer
  • the name(s), address(es) and affiliation(s) of the co-applicant(s)
  • the project period (max. 3 years)
  • the amount of financial support requested
  • a summary of the project (1-2 pages)
  • a list of up to 12 publications by the principal investigator and
  • a statement regarding the relevance and potential contribution of the project to cancer control (1-2 pages)

The note of intent must be transmitted by e-mail on or before March 31st, 2011 to:
