The Patronato Cibaeño Contra el Cancer (PCCC) is a private, charitable, not-for-profit NGO founded in October 1964. Its mission and long term goals are the promotion of life and dignity as fundamental human principles through solidary, efficient and kind medical attention for all patients with respect for their cultural differences and regardless of their race, nationality, gender, religious belief and socio-economic status. The organization has a 12-member Board of Directors and a Female Chapter composed of 15 members and 10 collaborators. Our extended network includes 10 provincial committees with a total of 100 members. The PCCC’s hospital, the Instituto Oncológico Regional del Cibao, has 40 beds, 110 salaried personnel, and facilities for diagnostic imaging, clinical and pathology laboratories, nuclear medicine, surgery, clinical oncology, radiotherapy and palliative care. The activities of PCCC focus mainly on advocacy, awareness, diagnosis and treatment. The PCCC is financed by donations from individuals and institutions, charges for low-cost services provided to patients, and a small annual allocation from the government. The PCCC became an UICC associate member in 2002.
