Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS) is a nation wide, community based non profit making voluntary health organization, founded by late princess Jayanti Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah in the year 1982. Its founding represented the objective, to control, prevent and cure cancer in Nepal, providing rehabilitative services to those suffering from the disease NCRS has been conducting various awareness programs through anti smoking campaining in various media outlets in the country, and educating the general Nepalese about the early signs of cancer with advice to come to the doctor for the diagnosis treatment at the slightest doubt. They have had played a vital and key role in restriction of tobacco related advertisement from various electronic media and government owned press media, had played as a pressure group to government to ban smoking in the public places and fought to impose 2 paisa tax on every stick of cigarette manufactured in the country. Nepal cancer relief society is playing a leading role in both preventive and curative programs against cancer. NRCS has its branches in 38 districts of Nepal. One of its major activities includes Mobile Cancer Screening Programs that are conducted throughout the year in the remote outskirts of Nepal, where both cancer screening and health education are undertaken. NCRS also provides scholarships for health practitioners (doctors/nurses) for higher studies. Apart from this, NCRS also conducts various other preventive & curative programs. Since 1982, NCRS has been associate UICC member.
