Mathiwos Wondu - YeEthiopia Cancer Society
Founded in April 2004, Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society is a non-governmental organization exclusively dedicated to the national control of cancer. The society of over 112 members is committed and aspire to serve and support all cancer patients in Ethiopia. MWECS is currently concentrating its efforts on supporting children with cancer and their families.
MWECS is working on two approaches to building and leading the national cancer control community. It is dedicated to enhancing the public's awareness of cancer and treatment facilities and pursuing advocacy work with the government and donor organizations.
As a member of the ministry of health in Ethiopia, the committee proposes that policy and strategy options on non-communicable diseases, including cancer, be adopted by the nation's government. Open to sharing and exchanging cancer control knowledge and competence equitably.
MWECS was accepted as an associate UICC member in May, 2007.
