Jikei University School of Medicine was founded in may, 1881. It had its origins in Sei-I-Kwai Medical Training School and University of Tokyo.

As of April 2002, Jikei University employed 2,151 members on its teaching and research staff. All their institutions are engaged in education, research, and clinical service.

The University became full UICC member in 1970.
