Instituto Português de Oncologia de Francisco Gentil (IPO) was established in 1923.

IPO is a multidiscipline of references for health services in all aspects of cancer. They focus on education, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care, assuring, that each sick person, will receive the cares that is necessary. Keeping up with the best clinical practices they use their available resources to the best of their abilities to allow all sick people to be treated.

IPO became full UICC member in 1975.
