Fakkous Center for Cancer and Allied Diseases
The Fakkous Center for Cancer And Allied Diseases was established in 1988. The idea to establish a cancer center in the Sharkia province was supported by a group of local advocates; and a popular daily newspaper launched the first fund raising campaign for a non-governmental and non-profit project for cancer control activities in Fakkous.
Today, 247 people work at Fakkous Center. It has 52 beds and contains 2 two operating theaters accompanied with a special care unit and an annex for renal dialysis. Fakkous cancer center has a medical journal, which publishes scientific articles and provides service to local doctors.
The Center provides support to orphans of cancer families and participates actively in environmental protection mainly through the safe disposal of hazardous waste and the planting of trees.
The Fakkous Center for Cancer and Allied Diseases, in 1993, became a full UICC member.
