Canadian Institutes of Health Research

The CIHR Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) has a mandate to, "excel, according to internationally accepted standards of scientific excellence, in the creation of new knowledge and its translation into improved health for Canadians, more effective health services and products and a strengthened Canadian health care system."

ICR is one the 13 institutes of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) dedicated to supporting research that reduces the burden of cancer on individuals and families through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, effective treatment, psycho-social support systems and palliation.

The group is committed to working with all members of the cancer community to develop strategic research and knowledge translation initiatives that will lead to improvements in cancer prevention and control for all Canadians.

ICR places a strong emphasis on partnership and collaboration when planning research initiatives and maintains a focus on promoting effective mechanisms for the timely translation of research results into action.

CIHR became a full member of UICC in May 2008.
