AHP undertake a multitude of functions and roles to reduce the incidence, morbidity, and mortality of cancer. Their activities span a broad spectrum, ranging from public awareness and prevention to treatment, and support. Education & Awareness: Raising awareness about cancer risk factors. Educating the public about the importance of early detection through screenings like mammograms, colonoscopies. Providing information about cancer prevention, treatment options, and support services. Screening & Early Detection. Advocacy: advocating for public policies that promote cancer prevention, early detection, access to health and quality care. Patient Advocacy Groups: Facilitate the formation of patient advocacy groups where cancer patients and survivors can come together to share their experiences, voice concerns, and collaborate on advocacy initiatives. Support Services: Offering support groups for cancer patients and their families. Providing financial assistance, transportation to treatment, and help with other logistical issues. Psychosocial Support Programs: Establish support programs that offer counselling, therapy, and psychosocial support to cancer patients and their families, helping them cope with the emotional and mental challenges of cancer. Fundraising: Through events, donations, and other initiatives, they raise funds to support research, treatment, and other vital services. Collaboration: Organization often collaborate with other institutions, governmental bodies, and NGOs to maximize resources and expertise.
