Pain Relief and Palliative Care Society is a Charitable and Non- profitable Organization established in 2007. Its mission is to increase the availability and access to quality palliative care for patients with incurable illnesses and their families. Pain Relief and Palliative Care Society (PRPCS) was formed to give help to patients suffering from cancer, HIV & AIDS, renal failure, heart diseases, paralysis, advanced diabetes, etc.
PRPCS is actively engaged in training and advocacy in the state. We conduct regular training camps for volunteers and family case managers. We also conduct a one-month certificate course in palliative care for volunteers every alternate month in MNJ IO&RCC.
Rural Outreach Palliative Care Program
As an outreach program, in Chevella Mandal, patients were identified after a needs-assessment survey in six villages. Two volunteers were appointed on behalf of the Society for regular follow-up of patients there is regular visits by Doctor/ nurse and volunteers team to take care of these patients. In all, in the five villages we found eight cancer patients, four HIV +ve patients, 13 paralysis patients and many more with other chronic disabilities.
Home-based Care Program for patients with incurable advanced diseases
An initiative of Pain Relief and Palliative Care Society ,“Life at Your Door Step” program for patients with advanced illnesses like cancer was started in 2008 by Pain Relief and Palliative Care Society in collaboration with Dr. Reddy’s Labs (DRL) Foundation for Health Education and MNJ Institute of Oncology & Regional Cancer Centre. So far the program has seen more than 1000 patients and several follow-up visits in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Patients and their families were supported in taking care of their physical problems like severe pain, breathlessness, bad wounds, swelling of the abdomen, confusion and end-of-life care along with skilled psychosocial counselling and support.
A skilled and dedicated team of two nurses and one counsellor in consultation with palliative care consultants and the staff of department of palliative care in MNJIO&RCC are offering their services. DRL has been supporting the program with the necessary funding for the year 2008 – 2011.
The society has income tax exemption under 80 (G) (5) (vi) of Income Tax Act 1961 dated 15-09-2010.
