Less than 48 hours to go until World Cancer Day

Be inspired by what will be taking place around the world to mark the Day!

We need to know what your plans are. It is never too late to add your event on the Map of Events available here and enable the world and media to see what you have planned to celebrate World Cancer Day 2015. The Map of Events is such a valuable platform, the interest rises year on year. Everyone is encouraged to share their plans, whether they are launching a report, organising a fundraising event or advocacy activity, we want the world to know and encouraged to get online and share it!

Please see below some examples of the exciting activities our members have planned throughout the World to give you the inspiration to organise your own event:

Australia		Morning tea and music performance at Peter Mac Organiser: Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Date: 4/02/2015
		The Australian Cancer Survivorship and Information Centre at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre invites patients, their families and carers for morning tea to mark World Cancer Day and a special performance as part of Peter Mac’s Music and Health Program.

Malaysia		Locks of Hope Campaign 2015 Organiser: National Cancer Society of Malaysia Date: 4/02/2015
		Locks of Hope Campaign – NCSM has been running this year-long campaign with one of our corporate partners to encourage the Malaysian public to donate their hair in order to be made into wigs for chemo patients. Wigs are generally very expensive in Malaysia and also not of great quality which generally discourages people from using wigs. These wigs which we are currently producing are much more comfortable and better in quality as they use human hair. We will be organising a press event together with the sponsor on 4th February to publicize this year-long campaign in conjunction with WCD whilst also distributing the wigs to needy cancer patients on the same day.

India		Awareness and Early Detection Camp on Cancer with Anti-Tobacco Campaign Organiser: North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute Date: 4/02/2015
		The NORTH EAST CANCER HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE is located in the North Eastern Region of India where the incidence of cancer has been alarmingly high with limited resource of specialized medical facilities. The Institute has been able to engage itself to arrange such camps which are of utmost necessity in this part of India.The Institute plans to support the WORLD CANCER DAY campaign on 4th of February 2015 by organizing the above event at Niralpur Primary School in Tatibama (Milanpur), which is one of the remotest rural areas in the state of Assam, India. The place is not marked by any specialized medical treatment facilities with no arrangement of any awareness camps on cancer so far. The aim is to promote awareness and medical check- ups for early detection of cancer amongst the mostly illiterate and poor people of the area.

Brazil		INCA's Debate on Healthy Life Choices Organiser: National Cancer Institute of Brazil (INCA) Date: 4/02/2015
		This year INCA is holding a debate in Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with the Social Service of Commerce (SESC). The debate will involve health professionals of both institutions in the areas of nutrition, sports and treatment of smokers, as well as representatives of civil society and the media.

USA		Raise Awareness for World Cancer Day Twitter Contest Organiser: GW Cancer Institute Date: 4/02/2015
		World Cancer Day is a unique opportunity to raise awareness about cancer prevention and to encourage people to lead healthy lifestyles. Maintaining a healthy weight is known to reduce the risk of cancer. Senegal		Randonnée pédestre contre le cancer Organiser: ALIAM; Ligue Sénégalaise contre le cancer, Health Miniter of Senegal Date: 7/02/2015
		Mme Awa Marie Coll Seck, Health Minister and Minister of Social Action along with M. Mbagnick Ndiaye, Monister of Sports regularly organise walks to raise awareness towards the population of Senegal on the importance of regular physical activity. A new edition of these healthy walks has been set up for World Cancer DAy 2015 and an emphasis will be made on the importance of cancer prevention and particularly physical activity.

United Kingdom		Cancer Research UK: We Will Unite Organiser: Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Date: 4/02/2015
		On February 4th, World Cancer Day, CRUK is pressing people to join the nation in a simple action to show their support and beat cancer sooner. Many people have been touched by cancer – they may have lost someone, be battling cancer, and CRUK want to celebrate survival, or protect future generations. People are encouraged to wear a Cancer Research UK Unity band on February 4th and make a small donation to show that they are joining a movement and showing their support in the fight against cancer. By making this small donation they will unite with the rest of the nation in making a big difference to bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured. cruk.org/worldcancerday #WeWillUnite
