An important week for NCDs

UN Review on NCDs on 10-11 July, don't forget to tune in and watch it live!

The UN Review on NCDs starts tomorrow, 10 July, at the UN Headquarters in New York. Don't forget to watch it live, via the UN Web TV here: http://webtv.un.org/

Thursday:

Proceedings on Thursday will begin with an opening plenary at 10am, featuring remarks from the President of the General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General, WHO Director General Margaret Chan, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, and Professor Tezer Kutluk, president-elect of UICC, speaking on behalf of civil society. This will be followed by a general debate for the remainder of the morning session and the afternoon session, until 6pm. Please note, civil society will be observing the sessions from an overflow room in CR 4.

Friday:

Roundtable 1, 10am-1pm: “Strengthening national and regional capacities, including health systems, and effective multisectoral and whole-of-government responses for the prevention and control, including monitoring, of non-communicable diseases.” (Chaired by The Hon. Dr. Fenton Ferguson, Minister of Health, Jamaica)

Roundtable 2, 3-5pm: “Fostering and strengthening national, regional and international partnerships and cooperation in support of efforts to address non-communicable diseases." (Chaired by Dr. Howard Koh, Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, United States)

The Review will end with a closing session from 5-6pm, with remarks from the President of the General Assembly, a report on the roundtable discussions, and the adoption of the outcome document. Please note, seating in the Trusteeship Council Chambers gallery for civil society is first come, first served. Civil society can observe the sessions from overflow room CR 3.
