Global Village creates members' hub

Members from seven different regions gathered during the World Cancer Congress in Canada, where they had the opportunity to connect with member organisations from the same region.

Members from seven different regions gathered during the World Cancer Congress in Canada, where they had the opportunity to connect with member organisations from the same region. The activity, developed for the first time in this type of event, was very well received by members. We were pleased with the enthusiasm that they showed in sharing their work and even exploring new ways of collaboration among them.

“It was good to network with those in the region and to have them meet face to face.”
Professor Ian Olver AM, Chief Executive Officer, Cancer Council Australia

“Regional gatherings are an important meeting point for networking, and this type of gatherings should be replicated.”
Beate Heieren Hundhammer, Head of the Political Secretariat, Norwegian Cancer Society

“These meetings help to the integration and knowledge of sister organisations in Latin America!” Mayra Galindo, Chief Executive Officer, Asociación Mexicana de Lucha Contra el Cáncer A.C.

"The informal gathering of organisations from the African Continent in the Global Village during the UICC WCC in Montréal was a wonderful opportunity to 'connect' in person with colleagues in the Region, to share information, to meet with old friends and make new ones."
Belmira Rodrigues, Managing Director, African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC)

UICC network continues to grow

The Membership base continues to expand with now 768 members from over 155 countries. The UICC geographical reach has significantly increased and diversified the type of member organisations working on cancer control. Some of the members include cancer societies, governmental agencies, hospitals, treatment centres and research institutes, as well as patient groups.

The tremendous growth of membership in the last quarter has been in great part thanks to the Global Network Membership (GNM) initiative that, although not available anymore, has given small organisations an opportunity to take part in the efforts for global cancer control. The most recent organisations that have joined are affiliates of Alliance des Ligues Francophones Africaines et Méditerranéennes contre le cancer (ALIAM), International Planned Parenthood Federation/ Western Hemisphere Region (IPPF/WHR), and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA). Welcome to all of them! For a complete list of GNM members click here.
