Dr Anne Merriman from Hospice Africa Uganda awarded

2013 Presidential Distinguished Service Award (Irish abroad)

Header Paragraph

Dr Anne Merriman, from Hospice Africa Uganda is to receive the 2013 Presidential Distinguished Service Award (Irish abroad), which is a tremendous honour that goes to very few Irish across the world.

The timing for the award coincides with Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU) celebrating 20 years of Palliative Care in Uganda, as well as 20 years of HAU – initially inspired by Dr Anne who continues to inspire and draw people who want to ensure that palliative care is accessible for all in need.

In September, Dr Anne received a life-time achievement award for her advocacy in Uganda and across Africa from the African Palliative care Association. Moreover, HAU received the Advocacy Award as an institution, for its ongoing long term work in Advocacy for Hospice and Palliative Care in Uganda and across Africa – representing the many people who have contributed to the continued understanding and practice of palliative care across Africa.
