Momentum moves the Maximize Life Campaign beyond 10,000 signatures
Already their virtual Tribute Wall reflects a growing number of more than 10,000 declaration signatures. Declaration signatures and personal support messages to cancer survivors have been collected on bulletin board style Tribute Walls in person at more than 60 local cancer awareness events throughout October and November.
Many more tributes, collected in person, are on their way from events such as the bicycle ride through Nairobi to raise awareness about cancer control in Kenya; the signature drive in Toluca, Mexico outside of a football stadium; and the blood drives across the Philippines to collect both blood donations and declaration signatures. Once collected in country, the signatures are then entered into the online Tribute Wall, starring the “Brave Sparrow” mascot, on The Max Foundation’s website.
The stamina with which people from the various countries are sending their tributes sends a powerful message about their commitment to the cause of cancer control. The signatures collected by The Max Foundation represent people living in 81 countries, from Botswana to the Bahamas and from South Korea to the Ukraine. A popular film star from Bollywood even joined the campaign from Mumbai, India.
For the past ten years, The Max Foundation has been facilitating access to treatment for cancer in all regions of the world. The organization is not new to grass roots initiatives. In partnership with cancer survivors, they have implemented a unique program of starting and growing local patient support associations. These young organizations are a true vehicle for social change, as evidenced by their participation in the 2010 Maximize Life Global Cancer Awareness Campaign, where members are actively giving back to their communities and rising above their cancer diagnosis each day.
