- Send a dedicated email, on an important or significant date in your calendar inviting your network to sign the Declaration.
For further inspiration - see below examples of how UICC members are collecting signatures for the Declaration campaign:
The Dutch Cancer Society – Email Campaign to network
10,000 signatures was the Dutch Society’s initial pledge. In February 2011, they sent an email to their network inviting them to support the Declaration; within 72 hours 19,0000 signatures were mobilised. Since then over 24,000 signatures have been handed over to UICC.
Max Foundation – Awareness Campaign
The Max Foundation made a pledge to collect 10,000 signatures and in order to reach this target they developed the Maximise Life Global Cancer Awareness Campaign. Declaration signatures and personal support messages to cancer survivors were collected on bulletin style tribute walls at more than 60 events throughout October and November 2010. On World Cancer Day the Max Foundation handed over 12,000 signatures at the UICC World Cancer Gala – exceeding their pledge of 10,000.
Israel Cancer Association (ICA) – Web campaign
The ICA created an online campaign to gather signatures for the Declaration. A teaser appears on the front page of their website asking people to sign the Declaration - a cheque appears on the target of 1 million where a signature is missing - a pen then writes, only your name is missing; sign the Declaration and show your support, push world leaders to invest more in cancer. So far the ICA have collected 2000 signatures.
The King Hussein Cancer Center and Foundation – Integrated approach
After easily fulfilling their original pledge of 1,500, the King Hussein Cancer Foundation made a second pledge of 10,000 signatures. To reach this goal they are utilising a number of methods to collect signatures, including a dedicated page on the website, manual signature collection at events and a targeted press campaign. They have also translated key promotional materials into Arabic.
Hope Society for Cancer Care –Grassroots Event
On the 14th November 2010, the Hope Society in Taiwan held an awareness-raising event to promote the goals of the World Cancer Declaration.
Cancer patients, survivors, medical specialists and many other people affected by cancer marched to their local hall and signed a huge canvas supporting a cancer free world. For a small grass roots organisation to collect almost 1000 signatures in one day is a great achievement!
The options are endless- if you have any other ideas please email us and we will feature your idea or organisation on this page!
Together we are stronger - join the Declaration campaign today and help us reach our goal of 1 Million signatures before the UN Summit on NCDs in September 2011!
