Landmarks around the world light up in World Cancer Day colours this 4 February

Header Paragraph

From Geneva to New York to Vancouver, the world will witness some of the most significant buildings and landmarks light up in orange and blue to mark World Cancer Day this coming 4 February.

Taking place every year on 4 February, World Cancer Day unites the world in the fight against cancer and aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease, and pressing governments, cities, organisations and individuals across the world to take action.

Cities around the world, including Calgary, Edmonton, Geneva, Halifax, New York City, Niagara Falls, Toronto, and Vancouver, will be signalling their commitment to the global challenge of cancer. The act of lighting up major landmarks not only helps to bring attention to World Cancer Day, but is a symbolic act of hope in the ongoing fight against cancer.

The following building and landmarks will light up in orange and blue on 4 February:

  • Calgary Tower, Calgary, Canada
  • Edmonton High Level Bridge, Edmonton, Canada
  • Halifax City Hall, Halifax, Canada
  • Jet d’eau, Geneva, Switzerland
  • Niagara Falls, including the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, through the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, Canada
  • Rogers Arena, Vancouver, Canada
  • The Empire State Building, New York City, United States of America
  • The CN Tower, Toronto, Canada
  • The Olympic Cauldron, Vancouver Canada

Cities around the world have also committed to marking World Cancer Day in other ways, including Oxford, who became the first UK city council to grant Official Recognition Status to World Cancer Day.

World Cancer Day thanks the American Cancer Society and Canadian Partnership Against Cancer who were instrumental in organising the landmarks and buildings participation on World Cancer Day.
