Chinese Anti-Cancer Association: "Together it is possible"

On Feb 4, 2012, the World Cancer Day themed events successfully held across China.Jointly with government and the public, CACA held all kinds of activities,such as science propaganda, medical consulting, experts discussion and so on

On Feburary 4, 2012, the inauguration for the 2012 World Cancer Day was launched in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The theme for the event:“Together it is possible”, which attracted oncological experts, government staffs, and general public to join the event. The event included free medical consulting, science propaganda practical activity, experts discussion seminar, and professional salon.
Dr. Xi-Shan Hao, the Chairman of the CACA explained the implications of the theme for the event and the main ideas for 2011 UN NCD Summit.To be specific, theme "Together it is possible" appeals people to work together to realize the ultimate target of reducing premature deaths from cancer and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by 25% by 2025.In the NCD Summit, Political Declaration on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases was passed. The Declaration clearly acknowledges cancer as a unique disease in many respects by making comparison with other NCDs. It also points out the urgent need for actions from countries all over the world.
With the worldwide morbidity of cancer will increase by 50% by 2020, approximately 15 million people every year. China accounts for 20% of cancer morbidity in the world, and the survival rate of Chinese cancer patients is only 13% which is much lower than developed countries. Dr.Xi-Shan Hao emphasized CACA will consolidate the commitment of “Uniting together in the fight against cancer” in the work in all respects. In other words, CACA will actively gather more opinions from medical institutions, academic societies and the public, and provide more constructive policy suggestions for the government, so as to unite varieties of strength to fight for the prevention and control of cancer and ultimately the benefit of cancer patients.
After the inauguration, CACA held 2012 World Cancer Day Professional Salon collaborating with China Digital Science and Technology Museum. Dr. Xi-Shan Hao and other two oncological experts joined the salon, further discussing the implication of World Cancer Day, colorectal, lung, and breast cancer prevention and treatment. The themed “Togther it is possible”experts discussion seminar was held at the same time. The seminar mainly discussed the problems, ideas, and demands when experts have in the cancer control careers. Meanwhile, the seminar indicated the idea for “together work and cancer control” and made consent for disseminating cancer science knowledge to public in the future.
The “2012 World Cancer Day ” activities of cancer diagnosis advisory and popular science propaganda involved many kinds of common tumors such as lung cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, kidney cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, lymphoma and esophagus cancer, and so on. People from 3 communities in Chengdu, cancer patients, and non-medical major students joined the activity. Knowledge of cancer prevention and control was publicized in the form of wall plate and advisory service was provided for people who have health problems. The specimen library of cancer pathology in West China Hospital, Sichuan University was visited, and live introduction was made by the medical personnel. More than ten medium from Beijing and Sichuan provided special report concerning the event.
