Declaration

Why he signed: A proud 9 year old adds his voice to the World Cancer Declaration

He is nine years old and looks maybe just closer to eight. His name Vaibhav means Glory or Grandeur and this little boy’s bearing sure bears testimony to his name.

No compromise here. A slightly built nine year old yes, but I repeat: there is no compromising on the grandeur angle.

Maximize Life Global Awareness Campaign Launch

The Max Foundation has pledged to collect 10,000 signatures to the Declaration in anticipation of the September 2011 United Nations Summit on NCDs.

With a campaign launch on September 25th near the organisation’s headquarters in the US, the Maximize Life Global Cancer Awareness Campaign will feature more than 50 events in all regions of the world during the month of October. The aim is to tap into a population typically not engaged in high level political activism, yet, a population whose lives have depended on the availability of cancer resources: people diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers living in countries lacking cancer control plans.

Promoting the Declaration

The World Cancer Declaration is a tool to help bring the growing cancer crisis to the attention of government leaders and health policymakers in order to significantly reduce the global cancer burden by 2020.

It represents a consensus between government officials, public health experts and cancer advocates from all continents that are committed to eliminating cancer as a major threat for future generations.

UICC encourages the development of local and national activities that support the achievement of the Declaration’s 11 targets and Action Plan. Here are some examples of how individuals and organizations can promote the Declaration.

Toolkit

The Declaration toolkit has been developed to assist individuals and organisations to understand the goal of the World Cancer Declaration in order to implement activities that work towards achieving the 2020 Targets and Priority Actions.

The toolkit contains a series of documents that provide detailed information on key aspects of the Declaration and guidelines for its promotion. We hope you find this material useful and welcome any feedback or suggestions. Please check this page periodically for updates.
