CanSupport's Walk for Life 2011

Stride or run against cancer on Sunday February 6, 2011 at 8:30 a.m., and experience the excitement of walking and running together for a common cause

Purpose of the Walk: to alert everyone to the rising incidence of cancer, to show solidarity with those affected by cancer, and to raise funds for CanSupport’s free of charge and much needed palliative and supportive care services for people battling cancer.

Venue: Central Civil Services Sports Ground, Vinay Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi

Route: The 5 km route starts from the Central Civil Services Sports Ground in Chanakyapuri and winds its way back down scenic Shantipath.

Chief Guest: Mrs. Gursharan Kaur, wife of the Prime Minister of India, will flag off the Walk for the fourth time in the presence of dignitaries and persons of distinction which will include Mrs. Sheila Dikshit, the honb’le Chief Minister of Delhi.

Registration Fee: Rs. 250 (for individuals), Rs.100 (for students with valid ID card), free for children below 12 yrs.

Kit: a T-shirt, a scarf and a bag (a cap at the venue)

CanSupport’s ‘Walk for Life; Stride Against Cancer’ event has become a much talked about and awaited annual feature of the Delhi calendar. On the first Sunday in February, people from all walks of life, representing different age groups and professions: students, executives, cancer survivors, medical professionals, caregivers, celebrities, bureaucrats, politicians, expatriates and diplomats, among others, walk or run together. Their purpose is to:

• express solidarity with those facing cancer;
• create awareness about how to reduce the risk of cancer and catch it early;
• honour the memory of those who have succumbed to the disease;
• raise funds for CanSupport’s much valued services .
