Since 2009, the World Cancer Day is emphasized in Brazil with the support of the National Cancer Institute of the Ministry of Health (INCA). Cancer is the second main cause of death in the country and, every year, 500 thousand new cases of the disease are diagnosed in the Brazilian population, which is currently of 195 million people.

In order to draw attention to this date, the following actions are scheduled:

• A technical meeting at INCA to fund the Brazilian government at the United Nations Summit on Non-Communicable Diseases and Cancer, attended by the Minister of Health, governmental areas, technical and scientific entities, benchmark institutes and international organizations (PAHO, UNASUR);
• Display of lights in buildings and monuments in Brazilian cities;
• Actions on the internet to mobilize the population and the press, with messages and videos from INCA’s Director General and member of the UICC’s Board of Directors, Luiz Antônio Santini, appointed by the UICC as spokesman for Latin America.

Desde 2009, o Dia Mundial do Câncer é destacado no Brasil com apoio do Instituto Nacional de Câncer do Ministério da Saúde (INCA). O câncer é a segunda causa de morte no país e todo ano 500 mil novos casos da doença são diagnosticados na população brasileira que atualmente totaliza 195 milhões de habitantes.

Para chamar a atenção para a data, estão programadas as seguintes ações:

• Reunião técnica no INCA para subsidiar a posição do Governo brasileiro na Conferência de Cúpula da Organização das Nações Unidas sobre as Doenças Não Transmissíveis e Câncer, com participação do Ministro da Saúde, áreas governamentais, entidades técnico-científicas, institutos de referência e organismos internacionais (PAHO, UNASUR);
• Iluminação de prédios e monumentos em cidades brasileiras;
• Ações na internet para mobilizar a população e a imprensa, com mensagens e vídeo do diretor geral do INCA e membro do Board of Directors da UICC, Luiz Antonio Santini, nomeado pela UICC porta-voz na América Latina.
