BAPA and WBB - Demanding A Cancer Preventable Environment

Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and WBB Trust are going to jointly organize a Human Chain "Demanding Cancer Preventable Environment” on the eve of World Cancer Day.

Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and WBB Trust are going to jointly organize a Human Chain "Demanding Cancer Preventable Environment” on the eve of World Cancer Day on 4 February 2011 at 11.00 a.m. in front of Fine Arts Institute of Dhaka University.

Each year, over 12.7 million people receive a cancer diagnosis and 7.6 million people die from the disease in the world. If no action is taken, the worldwide cancer burden is expected to reach 26 million new diagnoses and 17 million deaths by the year 2030. More than 70% of all cancer deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. However, we must know that 30-40% of cancers can be prevented through reducing urban air pollution and maintenance of body weight through regular physical activity and taking safe and balanced diet.

On behalf of the people we will press the government to modify its policies and programs for ensuring safe food for all, increasing facilities for walking and cycling in the cities and towns, increasing play grounds, parks and open spaces, controlling air pollution through removing age-old vehicles from the road, saving the water bodies from industrial pollution and controlling all other cancer risk factors.

Please attend this program and raise your voice in favour of the legitimate demand of all the people to live safe.
