Building the NCD Movement in Bangladesh

UICC is a founding member of the NCD Alliance, a civil society network uniting 2,000 civil society organisations, scientific and professional associations, academic and research institutions, many of which are also UICC members.

UICC member, Eminence Associates for Social Development, is an evidence-based NGO in Bangladesh. In 2009, Eminence initiated a non-communicable disease (NCD) forum that has since created a platform for professionals working in the prevention and management of NCDs to convene and advocate for the development and implementation of NCD policies in-country.

In the years following the Forum’s creation, there have been a number of new initiatives around NCDs. For instance, the initiative 3T prompts forum members to host local gatherings the third Thursday of every month, providing students and young professions with an opportunity to express their relationship with NCDs. Go Red for Women, another initiative, works to inform Parliament members about cardiovascular diseases in women and how the government can improve low cost cardiac screening to women in slums.
