Cancer Outcomes Statement for UN Summit on NCDs

The proposed “UICC UN Summit on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Cancer Outcomes Statement” is now available. This document has been prepared with strong support from the UICC Presidents’ UN Task Force.

The major aim of this Outcomes Statement is to set out specific action-oriented objectives that will support the long-term delivery of the 11 Targets contained in the World Cancer Declaration. We now seek your support to unify the cancer world around this document and to lead into the UN Summit in September united in our desire to improve cancer outcomes for all.

As the global voice of its members, UICC is confident that this Cancer Outcomes Statement can be used as an effective tool in advocating for cancer as a global health priority leading up to the UN NCD Summit. We encourage you to use this Cancer Outcomes Statement in your own advocacy efforts.

Three key asks are:

  • Present and discuss the Cancer Outcomes Statement. We will soon deliver to all members a summary version of this document that can be presented to your Minister of Health, your country’s representative at the Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, or other government representative.
  • Show governments the human face of this epidemic. Please provide us with stories that highlight successes in cancer prevention, early detection or treatment that will bring to life the objectives in this Cancer Outcomes Statement. We hope, with your permission, to use these stories of hope in our media and web communications.
  • Promote the World Cancer Declaration and support our pledge to present 1 million signatures to the world’s leaders at the UN NCD Summit in September. Your continuing support of the World Cancer Declaration is vital for UICC to advocate for a global commitment to reducing the cancer burden.

We hope that you will join us in our efforts to ensure that the UN Summit is transformative in the global response to cancer.
