2016 World Cancer Congress - Paris, France

We are pleased to announce that Paris has been selected to host the 2016 World Cancer Congress and World Cancer Leaders’ Summit. We would also like to express our thanks to the cities of Buenos Aires and Tokyo who also bid to host these events.

Held in conjunction every two years, the 2016 World Cancer Congress and the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit were awarded to host city Paris, France.  The French League Against Cancer, one of UICC’s founding members will be acting as the Local Host Organisation with the support of ALIAM (Alliance of African & Mediterranean French Speaking Leagues Against Cancer).

UICC fully appreciates that such bids involve considerable work by many people and we would like to thank the three bidders representing the cities of Buenos Aires (bid supported by INC – the National Cancer Institute), Tokyo (bid supported by the Japan National Committee for UICC) and Paris (bid supported by The French League Against Cancer). UICC is very grateful to have received such enthusiasm and interest from its Members in hosting these important global cancer events.  The dates for 2016 will be announced shortly. Save the date: 3-6 December 2014 - UICC World Cancer Congress in Melbourne, Australia

The 2014 World Cancer Congress will take place in Melbourne, Australia on 3-6 December 2014. Mark your calendars now and stay tuned for more information.

Organised by UICC and hosted by Cancer Council Australia - an active UICC Member organisation - the 2014 World Cancer Congress will once again gather all cancer control professions under one roof, at a crucial time in the global fight against cancer. Those high level cancer experts who attended the last UICC Congress in Montréal will confirm the UICC World Cancer Congress has become a not-to-be missed event in the global health calendar.

The Congress in Melbourne will provide participating delegates with even more opportunities to interact with an impressive range of specialists from all over the world. One of the key objectives of the 2014 World Cancer Congress will be to arm delegates with the necessary tools that will enable them to make a difference, implement knowledge and take action at all levels in the global fight against cancer.

Evaluation report 2012 World Cancer Congress, Montréal, Canada – what we learned?

Based on the 2012 World Cancer Congress delegate survey, 98% of the respondents mentioned they would recommend the event to a colleague. This result emphasises the high level of satisfaction that the event generated amongst its participants.

Amongst the listed Congress highlights, the high quality of the plenary sessions and their presenting speakers were the clear winners, followed by some specific experts who have inspired their audience. The vibrant and dynamic atmosphere of the Global Village also enthused largely through its ability to facilitate connections and networking opportunities. The various social events such as the concert in Notre-Dame Cathedral and the American Cancer Society and Global Relay for Life dinner programme organised were also highlights.

An interesting finding from the delegate survey was the importance of “word of mouth” and “direct recommendation from a UICC Member Organisation” in the successful promotion of the World Cancer Congress. UICC therefore already relies on its Member Organisations to start promoting the dates of the UICC 2014 World Cancer Congress (3 – 6 December 2014) to their wider networks so the forthcoming event is a success.

COMING SOON: The 2014 World Cancer Congress “call for sessions” starts on 11 February 2013 – your chance to contribute to the programme content.

Soon will be the time for you and your organisation to start proposing sessions that could be presented as part of the programme for the 2014 World Cancer Congress. This is your chance to engage your colleagues and connections and respond to “the call for sessions” by proposing a session of global interest. The 2014 World Cancer Congress Programme Committee will be led by two experts, both of whom form part of the UICC Board of Directors: Dr. Heather Bryant, Vice-President, Cancer Control, Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (Canada) and Professor Sanchia Aranda, Director of Cancer Services and Information at the New South Wales Cancer Institute (Australia).  Stay tuned on worldcancercongress.org for more details, including the release of the 2014 World Cancer Congress theme and associated programme tracks.
