“Moving As One”, Cancer Stakeholders Meeting: Action Plan for Cancer Prevention and Control
To align the varied initiatives being undertaken in our country by partner organizations in cancer, “Moving As One” is now identifying groups that could meet to analyse the views and aspirations expressed in the symposium and form a consensus on the best ways by which these could be transformed into synergistic and long-term action by building capacities and strategic alliances with cancer stakeholders.
The overall goal is to reduce cancer incidence and mortality and improve the quality of life of people living with cancer by bringing cancer awareness in the global health agenda and improving the health policy in the country. The meeting holds the opportunity of creating plans for pushing immediate passage of two important bills. The first of which is HB5368: “The National Cancer Institute Act of 2011" and HB5727: “An Act Restructuring the Excise Tax on Alcohol and Tobacco Products.”
The event also aims on improving collaboration with the two leading research institution in the country, the National Institute of Health and the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development. Measuring the disease burden helps policymakers determine where health-related investments should be targeted to come up with a comprehensive cancer program in the country.
