Founded in 1933 and based in Geneva, UICC’s growing membership of over 1100 organisations across 170 countries and territories, features the world’s major cancer societies, cancer centres, ministries of health, research institutes and patient groups. Fostering inclusive partnerships represents the foundation of how UICC operates and delivers impact. This is why UICC works hand in hand with a variety of stakeholders to drive changes and make progress in cancer control. The portfolio of partnerships includes cancer organisations, foundations, and private sector companies.

Summary: Partnership Development Team

The Partnership Development team works across the organisation to nurture and engage the partnership base and execute an effective resource mobilisation strategy for UICC’s activities and programmes. In the past years, UICC has developed a dynamic membership and partnership network with increased engagement from members all around the world and successful partnerships with more than 50 partners. The Partnership Development team is responsible for securing at least 75% of the total operational budget of UICC.

The team focuses on:

  • Diversifying funding sources and engaging new partners that share UICC’s mission and values

  • Deepening existing partnerships to advance global cancer control together

Summary of the position

The Partnership Development Specialist fundraises and develops/manages long term strategic partnerships with UICC members and other organisations. She/he also maintains the income database and supports the team in tracking income. As part of the Partnership Development team, the Partnership Development Specialist will develop and implement effective strategies for income generation within the existing partnership structure. The Specialist will work with the teams across UICC and other external partners to deliver successful fundraising activities targeted at companies, foundations, cancer organisations, and high net worth individuals. S/he would contribute to the team’s fundraising target of about USD 8-10 million per year.

Main responsibilities

  • Supporting the execution of the partnership and fundraising strategy and annual plan

  • Identifying prospects and sequencing requests to maximise opportunities from all sectors

  • Establishing, maintaining and strengthening relations with key UICC funding partners, members, the Board of Directors and other external stakeholders

  • Defining and implementing effective stewardship activities

  • Developing and managing cultivation activities and high-level events

  • Proactively seeking and exploring fundraising opportunities

  • Writing and producing comprehensive and compelling proposals and campaign reports

  • Serving as a point of contact for fundraising for UICC key initiatives that are assigned to this position

  • Developing tailor made portfolio proposals that meet UICC’s and the partner’s joint objectives

  • Ensure compliance of partnerships and agreements

  • Support the team in tracking partnership income and maintaining the income database including supporting the transition to a new CRM system

Skills and competencies 

  • An advanced university degree with a minimum of three years proven track record of fundraising in a non-profit organisation or an international organisation
  • Good knowledge of the philanthropic sector - companies, foundations and high net worth individuals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a small, multicultural, dynamic team
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands
  • Demonstrated ability to maximise the growth potential of partnerships
  • Experience in developing proposals
  • Good IT skills particularly in using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience of using CRM systems would be an advantage
